Whenever I'm in a steakhouse, you can bet there will be mushrooms ordered to go with my steak. Most times, steakhouse mushrooms are simple. No cream, overpowering seasonings or anything to take away from the mushroom flavor or that expensive steak on your plate. For me, this steakhouse grilled mushrooms recipe is one of the best ways to cook mushrooms.
Not only are mushrooms absolutely delicious and low in calories, but loaded with health benefits. Check out the all the health benefits of mushrooms, including possibly reducing your cancer risk.
You only need two ingredients to make the best mushrooms. All you need is fresh mushrooms and a cooking oil with a high smoke point like canola oil or avocado. (Save the olive oil for another recipe.) The mushrooms cook up on the grill in under 10 minutes. Don't have a grill? Cook the mushrooms in a cast iron skillet or grill pan.
These tender grilled mushrooms are the perfect side dish with steaks or any beef, chicken, lamb and pork.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 8 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 3 to 4
Ingredients
- 16 ounces fresh mushrooms (whatever variety you like or a combination)
- vegetable oil or avocado oil
Here's how to make it:
- Heat the grill to medium high heat. Put the mushrooms into a large bowl. Drizzle with the oil and season with salt and black pepper, to taste. (You could add any seasonings you like at this point. I like them with no seasoning but also occasionally sprinkle them with garlic powder, onion powder and smoked paprika.)
- If you mushrooms are larger, put them directly onto the grill. For smaller mushrooms, you can use a vegetable grilling rack or a piece of aluminum foil with slits cut into it.
- Grill the mushrooms for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until soft and slightly charred. Serve. Store any leftover mushrooms in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave. This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled for larger families or get-togethers.
