To make this gluten-free icing recipe, you need only three simple ingredients: powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract. That's it! The pinch of salt is optional. You simply whisk together the ingredients then spread the creamy icing on whatever you like.

- 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 tablespoons whole milk, half and half or heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Measure out the cup of powdered sugar before you sift it.
- You can use whole milk, half and half or heavy cream, depending on the consistency you like.
- This recipe generally makes enough icing for a single cake or a dozen cookies or cupcakes, etc.
- Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Here’s how to make it:
- Sift the powdered sugar into a medium mixing bowl.
- Add the milk and vanilla extract. Add the salt, if using.
- Whisk until well-blended. To get the consistency you want, add a bit more milk (for a thinner consistency) or a bit more powdered sugar (for a thicker consistency).
- Spread over your favorite baked goods. If not using immediately, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.
