Creamy Green Taco Sauce Recipe Makes Tacos Happy (7 Ingredients, 10 Minutes) Mexican Recipes Sauces/Condiments Appetizers Gluten-free Budget Recipes Low Sodium Recipes Farm to Table Recipe Low Sugar Recipes
I love sauces. On anything. My latest food obsession is finding new, interesting sauces to drizzle over my tacos. This green taco sauce recipe is a bit different from the other green sauces I'm used to because it's made with cream cheese and green onions. The taco sauce sounded too interesting (and irresistible) not to try, and I'm sure glad I did. Yum.
This easy, creamy, gluten-free taco sauce recipe is so simple to make fresh right before you sit down to dinner. All you need to make this homemade Mexican-inspired sauce is jalapenos, garlic, green onions, lime juice, water, cream cheese and fresh cilantro. The ingredients are whirled in a blender or food processor until smooth and creamy. (Check out the health benefits of jalapenos, the health benefits of green onions, the health benefits of cilantro and the health benefits of limes.)
Drizzle this green sauce over those taco night tacos, or use it in other creative ways. Stay simple and dip tortilla chips in it or get fancy and drizzle it over fish, shrimp or chicken. It would also make a tangy sandwich spread on sandwich night or flavorful salad dressing.
How will you use this creamy green taco sauce?
Cuisine: Mexican / American / Tex-Mex
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 20 (makes about 2 cups)
Ingredients
- 3 jalapenos, ribs removed, seeded and chopped
- 1 clove garlic
- 4 green onions, chopped
- 1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1/4 cup water (more as needed)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Here's how to make it:
- Put all the ingredients into a blender or food processor. Season with salt and black pepper. (You can reduce the amount of heat by using one or two jalapenos instead of three. Fresh is best, so squeeze fresh lime juice for this recipe.)
- Puree until smooth. Taste and add more salt, black pepper and lime juice, if needed. If you want a thinner sauce, add a bit more water. (Adjust the amount of water to reach your desired consistency.)
- Refrigerate until ready to use. Store the green sauce in an airtight container, salad dressing cruet or mason jar in the fridge.
