I have amazing friends who make and do so much for their communities, friends and families. This spring bunny bread recipe came from my friend in Alabama who loves to bring joy to others, often through her amazing cooking! She makes these yummy bread bunnies and packs them into colorful baskets to deliver to kids of all ages. These edible Easter bunnies have several steps, but you won't be sorry when you see the outcome of these delicious bunnies to eat at home or just share with those you love.

To make these aromatic rabbit-shaped bread loaves, you will need to gather the following ingredients: bread flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast (not active dry yeast), salt, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground allspice, milk, butter, eggs, canola oil and spring candy corn or other Easter candy.

Pack these fun bread bunnies in Easter baskets or set them out on your Easter table to eat with dinner or for dessert, and as a festive decoration. This Easter craft is a fun family tradition to start with your kids. Let's get them baking early!

Recipe Notes

  • If you can't find the spring candy corn at your local grocery store, I found it on Amazon (see link below and in ingredient list).
  • You could use other Easter candy instead of candy corn. Robin's Eggs would be fun!
  • Store the bread in an airtight container to keep it fresh.

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a mixing bowl add the first seven ingredients: flour, sugar, yeast, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice.
  2. Combine water, milk and butter in small microwave safe dish. Warm it just enough to melt the butter (you do not want to boil it).
  3. In a small bowl beat the eggs. Add the butter mix and eggs into the mixing bowl and mix on medium with a dough hook to combine. Place dough on a floured surface, knead for about 3 minutes to form a soft ball. (If you don't have a mixer with dough hook just mix it until dough is smooth.)
  4. Rub the dough ball with oil and place it in a well-oiled bowl.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let is rise in a warm dry place until it doubles in size, about 60 minutes.
  6. Place dough onto a floured surface and divide into 10 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a rope 24-inch long and cut each rope into three pieces: 13 inches for body, 6 inches for head, 2 inches for ears and ball for tail.
  8. Shape and pinch together pieces to form bunnies.
  9. Spray cookie sheets with oil. Place bunnies on pan. Cover and let rise for 40 minutes in a warm dry place. When there is 10 minutes remaining preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  10. Place bunnies in the oven until golden brown approximately 15 minutes.
  11. Remove from oven and immediately press candy corn in bunnies for eyes.
  12. Cool, wrap with plastic wrap and tie ribbon around neck, if desired.
