Homemade Easter Chicks Dinner Rolls Recipe In Just One Hour Holidays Bread/Muffins Snacks Side Dishes

My family always gets a giggle out of these springtime bread rolls. I use corn nibbles for the bird's beak. Use your imagination and you might find something perfect in your pantry. Black sesame seeds work great for the eyes. Either way, this homemade Easter bread chicks recipe is 60 minutes from beginning to end!

To make these homemade bread chicks, you will need to gather the following ingredients from your pantry and fridge: vegetable oil, active dry yeast, granulated sugar, table salt, an egg, bread flour and honey.

Ingredients

• 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (no warmer than 105 degrees F)
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
• 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon table salt
• 1 egg
• 3 1/2 cups bread flour
• 1/3 cup honey, warmed

Recipe Notes

• If you don't have Silpat mats, you could use parchment paper.

• Store the bread rolls in an airtight container to keep them fresh. If you use corn for the beak they need to be kept in the fridge. 

Here's how to make it: 

1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the water, oil, yeast and sugar. Allow it to rest for 15 minutes. 
2. Using your dough hook attachment, mix in the salt, egg, and flour. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes on medium speed. The dough will be sticky but should be workable.
3. Lightly oil two baking pans or line them with Silpat mats. Divide dough into about two dozen equal pieces and form into smooth balls. Place into the baking pans an inch apart and allow them to rest covered in a warm location for 15 minutes until the dough has risen at least 1 1/2 times the original size.
4. Bake in a preheated 375-degree F oven for about 10 to 20 minutes or until golden brown (ovens vary).
5. Remove from oven and brush with warm honey. Apply black sesame seeds to the eyes. Use a toothpick or metal straw to poke holes in the beak. Stuff in the two corn niblets for the beak.
