I don't know about you, but there are quite a few times when I'm making dinner for family or friends and I want a delicious and light dessert to finish off the meal. This aromatic and tasty apple crisp recipe might soon become a favorite because it's so tasty and simple to make.

Inspired by Rachael Ray, I've adapted the apple dessert a little bit and hope you enjoy it as much as our family does! I love to combine different apple varieties because of the different textures and tastes. All you need for this fruit crisp recipe is apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon, brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour and butter. That's it! Of course, unless you want to top this sweet dessert with ice cream or whipped cream!

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 40 to 60 minutes (ovens vary)

Total Time: 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 6 - 8 medium cored and peeled apples of different varieties, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter, cold

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a bowl combine apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss to coat.
  2. Put the mixture into an 8x8-inch baking dish. Combine flour and brown sugar. Cut butter into pieces and add to flour and sugar mixture using a fork or your hands to mix it. Pour over the top of apples.
  3. Bake in a preheated 400-degree F oven for 40 to 60 minutes until top is golden brown and apples are tender.

You can’t go wrong with an old-fashioned apple crisp. It’s almost better than apple pie. 🍎
