The high-protein Italian meatballs have just a few simple ingredients. Here is your shopping list for this easy Italian recipe: dry Italian breadcrumbs, milk, ground beef, onion, fresh garlic, an egg, salt, black pepper, grated Parmesan cheese or Parmigiano-Reggiano, and fresh minced parsley.

The breadcrumbs and milk are mixed together and sit for five minutes before being added to the rest of the ingredients. The ground beef meatballs are baked in a hot oven for about 20 minutes. Simple, plus you get the health benefits of protein.

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup dry Italian breadcrumbs
• 2/3 cup milk
• 1 pound ground beef
• 1 small onion, grated
• 3 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
• 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese or Parmigiano-Reggiano
• 1 tablespoon fresh minced parsley

Here's how to make it: 

1. Combine the breadcrumbs and milk in a large bowl. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. 
2. Add the ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, cheese and parsley. Mix to combine, but do not over-mix. (Try this recipe with ground turkey or chicken.)
3. Roll into 2-inch balls and place on a greased baking sheet. 
4. Bake in a preheated 400-degree F oven for about 20 minutes. Serve as desired. Store the meatballs in an airtight container in the fridge.
