Like the title says, you just need five simple ingredients to make this creamy homemade taco sauce recipe: mayonnaise, sour cream or Mexican crema, lime juice (fresh is best), hot sauce and garlic powder. Whisk it up, season with salt and black pepper, and it is good to go.
Store this taco sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. This sauce would also be fabulous drizzled on grilled chicken breast, shrimp or fish, or used as a sandwich spread. Adios, boring taco night!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Mexican crema
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Here's how to make it:
- Whisk together all the ingredients. To lighten this mayonnaise and sour cream-based Mexican sauce up, you could use light mayonnaise and light sour cream, or replace the sour cream with Greek yogurt. For spice, stir in some minced fresh jalapeno. To add some smoky flavor, chop up a chipotle in adobe sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper. Chill until ready to use. Store the taco sauce in an airtight container in the fridge.
