Crave ice cream for dessert, but can't have dairy? This easy chocolate sorbet recipe is dairy-free, vegan, creamy and delicious on a hot summer day.

The creamy sorbet recipe makes about 1 quart, and can easily be doubled for larger families. Add your favorite toppings and you've got yourself a cool ice cream party!

Ingredients

Here's how to make it: 

  1. Melt the sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Start stirring when it begins to melt and continue until it begins to caramelize. Reduce the heat and pour in the water. Stir often until a dark caramel forms. 
  2. Add the cocoa powder and dash of salt. Stir until smooth. Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool. 
  3. Once cooled, stir in the vanilla. Put the mixture into the refrigerator to chill.
  4. When the mixture is cold, you can process it in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's directions or pour into a square baking pan and freeze for at least 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes.
