To make the brown sugar syrup, cook brown sugar and water together in a saucepot on the stovetop. Slowly start adding in the butter, stirring, until everything is melted together. Stir in the vanilla extract and you're done. So simple. And with this syrup, you know what's in it compared to store-bought pancake syrups. Fresh is always best.

- 1 cup water
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 stick butter, cut into pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Put the water and brown sugar into a small pot. Cook over medium heat until the sugar melts and mixture comes to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for about 4 minutes.
- Slowly add the butter, stirring until each piece has melted. Remove from heat and add the vanilla.
