Easy Southern Banana Pudding Recipe Is Dessert Perfection (8 Ingredients, 20 Minutes) Desserts Fruit Entertaining Holidays

Banana pudding really is dessert perfection. This easy southern banana pudding recipe has become a tradition at most holidays – from July 4th to Memorial Day to Thanksgiving to Christmas. Yep, it doesn't matter if it's winter, summer, spring or fall, this banana pudding is on request.

This really is the best banana pudding I've ever eaten or made. Here is your shopping list for this creamy banana pudding: ripe bananas, vanilla wafers, instant vanilla pudding, milk, cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract and non-dairy whipped topping.

You can assemble the banana pudding in a trifle bowl, 13x9-inch baking dish or even make individual puddings in clear dessert cups. If using a large trifle bowl, buy a 16-ounce container of the Cool Whip so you have plenty for the top. I pile the Cool Whip on top of the assembled trifle and add three vanilla wafers and also some crushed wafers on top to make it pretty.

Ingredients

• 5 - 6 ripe bananas, sliced
• 11 ounces (1 box) vanilla wafers (save a few for garnish)
• 6.8 ounces (2 small boxes) instant vanilla pudding  
• 3 cups milk
• 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
• 14 ounces (1 can) sweetened condensed milk
• 1/2 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 8 ounces (1 tub) Cool Whip

Here's how you make it:

1. In a bowl, combine the pudding, milk, softened cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Mix well with an electric mixer until completely combined and smooth. (Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature before making the pudding. If not, you may get flecks of cream cheese and not a smooth pudding.)
2. Fold in half of the Cool Whip (4 ounces). 
3. Layer some vanilla wafers on the bottom of a 13x9-inch baking dish or trifle bowl. (I use Nilla Wafers.)
4. Top with some of the sliced bananas.
5. Cover with half of the pudding mixture.
6. Add another layer of vanilla wafers, then bananas, then remaining pudding mixture.
7. Top with more Cool Whip.
8. Decorate the top with some crushed and whole vanilla wafers.
