Pork spare ribs are not something you may think about during the busy work week. But ribs do not take that long in the oven, and leave you time to do other things while they bake. You can bake pork ribs in the oven in about an hour (check out my recipe for rosemary and garlic pork ribs) or lower the oven temperature and cook them slower, like this fall-off-the-bone tender baked barbecue pork spare ribs recipe.
This shortcut recipe uses bottled barbecue sauce. If you prefer, you can make your own homemade barbecue sauce recipe instead. I chose a bottled barbecue sauce. There are some wonderful barbecue sauces on your grocery store shelves. Here is your shopping list for this high-protein, baked pork ribs recipe: a rack of pork spare ribs, garlic powder barbecue sauce.
You may or may not have silver skin to remove from the ribs. Mine were pretty clean, so I skipped this step. If you have a lot of silver skin, simply take a sharp knife (or even kitchen shears) and carefully cut it off. Silver skin in connective tissue membrane on the bottom of the ribs. If you have a lot, it can make the ribs chewy.
Serve these tender, juicy baked barbecue ribs for dinner with your favorite side dishes. I served my ribs with blackened ranch potato salad and bacon green beans.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 3 hours and 15 minutes
Total Time: 3 hours and 20 minutes
Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 1 rack pork spare ribs (remove the silver skin if needed)
- garlic powder
- 1 - 2 cups barbecue sauce (I used Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet & Spicy)
Here's how to make it:
- Put the ribs on a large sheet of aluminum foil. Season both sides with salt, black pepper and garlic powder, to taste.
- Wrap the ribs up tightly and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated 325-degree F oven for about 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender. When ribs are tender, carefully unwrap the top of the ribs and cover with barbecue sauce.
- Return the ribs to the oven and bake about 10 to 15 minutes more. Use a sharp knife and cut the ribs between the bones. Serve. Store the ribs in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave.
