If you like banana cream pie, then I've got exciting news for you. You can make a creamy delicious banana cream pie without a pie crust and without banana pudding mix. Seriously!
This magic banana cream pie recipe makes its own crust. The crust is so light and thin, though, that it really feels more like a crustless banana cream pie. And, this easy banana cream pie recipe is made with fresh bananas, and no banana pudding mix. Amazing! (Check out the health benefits of bananas.)
Here's what you need to make this creamy banana pie recipe: granulated sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, milk, flour and bananas. The plain Greek yogurt is optional. You mix the ingredients then bake them up until cooked through and golden. So simple!
This delicious pie recipe is the perfect dessert for entertaining, or for making your family smile at snack time on any given day of the week. Serve on its own or topped with whipped cream or ice cream. I served it with my high-protein bourbon ice cream topped with sliced almonds, and it was simply delish. Enjoy the banana goodness!
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 60 to 70 minutes (ovens vary)
Total Time: 75 to 85 minutes
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, softened
- 4 medium eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup flour (all-purpose or gluten-free)
- 2 medium bananas, mashed, and 1 medium banana, sliced (for topping)
- 1/2 cup low-fat plain Greek yogurt (optional)
Here's how to make it:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the sugar, softened butter, eggs and vanilla. Cream until blended.
- Add the milk and flour and continue mixing until blended. (You can use all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour. I used GF 1:1 flour.)
- Remove bowl from mixer. Stir in the mashed bananas and the Greek yogurt, if using.(I added a half cup of plain Greek yogurt to boost protein, but that's optional.)
- Pour batter into a 10-inch pie or cake pan that's been lined with parchment paper.
- Place pan onto a baking sheet or oven rack that's been lined with aluminum foil (to catch any drips that occur during baking).
- Bake on the middle rack of an oven that's been preheated to 350 degrees F for about 60 to 70 minutes, or until cooked through and golden. (If it's getting too brown on top, you can cover it with aluminum foil.)
- Allow to cool completely before garnishing, slicing and serving (I refrigerated mine for two hours before slicing).
- Garnish with the fresh sliced bananas. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
