Beef and broccoli recipes are always fan favorites here on 30Seconds. Beef broccoli recipes are usually quick to make and please most family members. This ginger beef and broccoli recipe caught my eye because of several different, flavorful ingredients. The taste of this gingered beef broccoli recipe is a bit more intricate and will make your taste buds dance!
To make this 20-minute Asian-inspired recipe you will need to gather the following list of flavorful ingredients: sesame oil, sirloin or flank steak, cornstarch, broccoli, shallots, butter, garlic, pickled ginger (read about the health benefits of ginger), cashews, low-sodium soy sauce or tamari and sweet Thai chili sauce. The high-protein recipe cooks up in one skillet in about 10 minutes after a short prep time.
If you can't eat nuts, leave the cashews out. If you want this recipe to be gluten-free, use gluten-free sauces and/or tamari. Pickled ginger is available in most larger grocery stores and in Asian markets.
Serve this beef broccoli dish for dinner over rice, noodles or your favorite grain.
Cuisine: Asian
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1 - 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak or flank steak, cut into thin slices
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 shallots, sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon pickled ginger (from a jar) or fresh ginger, minced
- 1 cup cashews
- 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce or tamari
- 1/3 cup sweet Thai chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons pickled ginger juice or rice wine vinegar
Here's how to make it:
- Combine the soy sauce, sweet Thai chili sauce and pickled ginger juice or red wine vinegar in a small bowl. Set aside. (You can use fresh ginger root or buy a jar of pickled ginger (also called sushi ginger). I love pickled ginger, and it adds a different layer of flavor to this dish. But fresh ginger would be delicious, too.)
- Sprinkle the meat with the cornstarch. Toss to coat.
- Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet or wok. Add the meat, season with a little black pepper, and cook, stirring, over medium-high heat until seared, about 5 minutes. (To make slicing the steak easier, place it in the freezer for 30 minutes beforehand.)
- Add the broccoli, shallots, butter, garlic, ginger and cashews. Cook until steak gets slightly crispy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add the sauce. Bring to a boil and cook until it reduces a bit, about 2 minutes.
- Serve over rice or noodles. Garnish with chopped green onions, if desired. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.
