The ingredient list for this high-protein ground turkey bowl is also short and simple, another bonus. To make this Asian-inspired turkey bowl recipe you need ground turkey (read about the health benefits of turkey), carrots, green onions, sweet chili sauce, ponzu sauce, sweet dark soy sauce, peanuts, a lime and rice or another grain for serving. You'll also need mayonnaise and sriracha for the simple spicy mayo. The turkey bowl recipe cooks in about 10 minutes!
Cooking Tips
- Be sure to cut the carrots on a small dice so they cook quickly.
- If you can't find ponzu sauce, substitute soy sauce, tamari, hoisin sauce, teriyaki sauce or tonkatsu sauce. You could also make homemade ponzu sauce.
- The peanuts are optional, but do add a nice crunch to the turkey bowl. You could use cashews or almonds instead.
The flavors and textures of this dish make you keep coming back for more. Serve this ground turkey bowl for lunch or dinner on those nights you want out of the kitchen fast.
Cuisine: Asian / American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- 12 ounces ground turkey (or chicken)
- 1 large carrot, diced small
- 2 - 3 green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sweet chili sauce
- 1 teaspoon ponzu sauce
- 2 tablespoons sweet dark soy sauce
- 1 lime, cut into quarters
- chopped peanuts, for serving (optional)
- rice, for serving
Spicy Mayo
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- sriracha sauce, to taste
Here's how to make it:
- Stir together the mayonnaise and sriracha, to taste, in a small bowl. Set side.
- Add a drizzle of cooking oil in a skillet. Add the carrots and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
- Add the ground turkey and chopped green onions. Cook until turkey is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Add the sweet chili sauce, ponzu sauce and sweet dark soy sauce. Squeeze in the juice of 1 lime wedge. (Bottled sweet chili sauce works great, but you could make homemade sweet chili sauce. It's easy! If you want to make this recipe gluten-free, use gluten-free sauces.)
- Stir and cook for about 2 minutes.
- Put cooked rice into the bottom of a bowl. Top with the ground turkey mixture. Garnish with the chopped peanuts and green onions. Drizzle with the spicy mayo. Serve with the remaining lime wedges. This recipe serves two, but can easily be doubled for four servings. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
