Pasta and I kind of have a thing. A pasta dinner usually is pretty quick to make and will put a smile on everyone's face. I know I would eat pasta several times a week if my husband was game! This creamy high-protein pasta recipe with Italian sausage is ready to eat in about 10 minutes. No joke. The Italian dinner is rich, creamy, flavorful and gets you out of the kitchen fast. (Check out the health benefits of protein.)
To make this easy, budget-friendly pasta recipe you will need just four ingredients. Four! Here is what you need to grab to make this comforting dinner: pasta, bulk Italian sausage, heavy whipping cream and Parmesan cheese. While fresh is always best, if you buy good-quality grated Parmesan cheese there is literally no prep.
Whip up this creamy Parmesan pasta on busy work or school nights when you need dinner fast. Serve the pasta with a fresh salad or hot bread for a complete meal.
Cuisine: Italian
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 8 minutes (approximately)
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 12 ounces pasta
- 1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Here's how to make it:
- Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and return to pot. (You can use any pasta you like for this recipe. I used spaghetti noodles, but you could use fettuccine, angel hair, penne, rotini, rigatoni, fusilli or your favorite pasta. The cooking time will depend on the type of pasta you are using.)
- While the pasta cooks, brown the Italian sausage in a skillet. (If you can't find bulk Italian sausage, buy links and remove the meat from the casings.)
- Add the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. (Add as much heavy cream and Parmesan as you like. I like mine really creamy and loaded with Parmesan, but you can go lighter. Start with 1/4 cup and add it until you're happy.)
- Stir in the cooked pasta and serve. Sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes and/or parsley flakes, if desired, and more Parmesan cheese. (Crushed red pepper flakes adds some heat. For color, sprinkle with parsley flakes.) Serve. This recipe can easily be doubled.
