Snoop Dogg's Favorite Mashed Potatoes Recipe Has a Spirited Secret Ingredient by Donna John

Snoop Dogg's Favorite Mashed Potatoes Recipe Has a Spirited Secret Ingredient

Snoop Dogg is not only an acclaimed rapper, but he's also well versed in the kitchen. I read an article about Snoop where he shared his favorite mashed potato recipe. Is it any surprise that his secret ingredient is cognac? The spirited vegetarian mashed potato recipe is also in his new cookbook, Goon With the Spoon.

To make these creamy gluten-free mashed potatoes you will need russet potatoes, cognac or brandy, butter (Snoop uses unsalted butter), heavy cream, mayonnaise, kosher salt and cracked black pepper. Don't worry, the alcohol cooks out so you won't need a designated driver.

Serve these creamy cognac mashed potatoes as a side dish with dinner or add them to your Thanksgiving or Christmas menus, like Snoop does.

Recipe Notes

  • Use a potato masher to mash the potatoes.
  • You could use Yukon gold potatoes instead of russet potatoes.
  • If you use salted butter, reduce the omit of additional salt.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Cook the potatoes in boiling, salted water until tender, about 25 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Over medium heat in the same empty pot, add the cognac. Cook until reduced, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the butter until melted, then whisk in the cream and mayonnaise. Cook, stirring, about 5 minutes.
  4. Put the potatoes back into the pot. Season with salt and pepper. Mash until smooth.

Interesting ingredient especially from a rapper chef!

What an interesting recipe - but I would expect nothing less from Snoop Donna John ! I remember watching the show, I think it was called "Cooking With Martha and Snoop', where he and the iconic Ms Stewart were each paired up with a celebrity to prepare a different dish. Martha of course measured everything, whilst Snoop just seemed to throw in everything but the kitchen sink - yet he often won the taste test competition. Go figure! A man of many talents, to be sure!
