Craving a marshmallow cereal treat? Those iconic cereal marshmallow treats come in all different varieties now, not just the original recipe we grew up with. One of the most decadent is this death by chocolate crispy cereal treat. OMG. Who could resist these ooey, gooey, chocolate cereal bars?
These chocolate cereal treats have chocolate inside the bar and sprinkled on top, because can you really ever get enough chocolate? To make these chocolate cereal bars you will need just five simple ingredients: butter, marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, chocolate puffed rice cereal and vanilla extract. They are just as quick and easy to make as the original recipe.
Serve these chocolate marshmallow cereal bars as a sweet snack any time of the day. They are so rich and chocolatey, they would even make a wonderful dessert after dinner. Want to score points with your kids? Pack one in their school lunch!

Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 50 regular-size marshmallows
- 1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips (divided)
- 6 cups chocolate puffed rice cereal (like Cocoa Krispies)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Here's how to make it:
- Melt the butter over low heat in a large pot. Add 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips and stir to melt. You can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate or semisweet chocolate chips.
- Add the marshmallows and stir until melted. Turn off the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add the cereal and stir until well combined. Stir in 1/2 cup more of the chocolate chips. If you don't want them as chocolatey, use regular puffed rice cereal.
- Press the mixture into a buttered 13x9-inch baking pan. If you want thicker treats, use a 9x9-inch baking pan. Use the butter wrapper to press the cereal into the pan. If you don't have a butter wrapper, use buttered hands or a buttered spatula.
- Sprinkle the top with the remaining chocolate chips. Let them cool completely before cutting into squares. Store the cereal treats in an airtight container.
