Healthy Blueberry Smoothie Recipe: A Nutritional Powerhouse That Includes Oats for Added Fiber

Blueberries are a nutritional powerhouse. One of nature's best sources of antioxidants, blueberries help protect your cells from damage by free radicals. Blueberries also help prevent cholesterol, improve heart and bone health, and can help with blood pressure and diabetes.

If the health benefits of blueberries aren't enough to encourage you to eat more of them, let me remind you about how great they taste! Blueberries offer a sweet (but not too sweet) flavor that is perfect for breads, muffins, desserts and, of course, smoothies. This easy blueberry smoothie recipe is the perfect way to get your daily dose of blueberries, fast. But this recipe is a bit different in that it includes oats for added fiber. And who doesn't need more of that?

All you need for this delicious blueberry smoothie are blueberries, Greek yogurt, a banana, old-fashioned oats, orange juice, water and a few ice cubes. In just about five minutes, you can be sipping on a rich and nutritious beverage that'll get you going in the morning, or perk you up as an afternoon snack.

Recipe Notes

  • If you don't have fresh blueberries, you can use frozen blueberries.
  • For a more shake-like consistency, you can use a frozen banana.
  • You can modify this recipe by using different types of berries in place of the blueberries, such as strawberries or raspberries.
  • To add even more nutrition, you can add a teaspoon of flaxseed or protein powder.

Here's how you make it:

  1. Put all the ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy (you may need to add more or less water to achieve your desired consistency).
  3. Pour into your favorite smoothie glasses. Garnish with additional blueberries and oats, if desired.
