Magic 2-Ingredient Lemon Bars Recipe: An Amazingly Delicious Lemon Dessert by Donna John

Magic 2-Ingredient Lemon Bars Recipe: An Amazingly Delicious Lemon Dessert

Skeptical. That's what I always am going into a recipe that sounds too good to be true. For example, this two-ingredient lemon bars recipe. Two ingredients? I'm here to happily report that these lemon bars are amazing! The lemon bars are moist and full of tangy lemony flavor. These are sure to be a hit at my Easter get-together this weekend.

The ingredient list is beyond easy. Did I mention you only need two ingredients? These moist lemon bars are made with a box of angel food cake and a can of lemon pie filling. The two ingredients are mixed together, spread into a 13x9-inch baking pan (I used a glass baking pan) and baked until set and just beginning to lightly brown on top. Let them cool, then if you want to fancy them up, dust with a little powdered sugar. Cut them into squares and you're ready for a sweet treat!

Serve these easy lemon bars for dessert or just grab one for a quick snack. These bars would be a wonderful choice for spring and summer get-togethers, cookouts and potlucks.

Recipe Notes

  • Some angel food cake mixes come with one package and some have two inside. Use both if your angel food cake mix has the egg white mixture separated.
  • For prettier bars, dust them with powdered sugar.
  • Store the lemon bars in an airtight container.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Put the cake mix and lemon pie filling into a mixing bowl.
  2. Stir until well combined.
  3. Spread into a buttered 13x9-inch baking pan.
  4. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 24 to 28 minutes or until the top is just beginning to lightly brown.
  5. Remove the lemon bars from the oven and let them cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired.
  6. Cut into squares. Store in an airtight container.

Well, this recipe couldn't be any easier or more delicious. Score, Donna John ! Great for Memorial Day or anytime.
Jaymes Moynihan
So a box of store bought cake mix now counts as ONE ingredient? I guess 30seconds is ok with lying to people just to get clicks. Also. Anybody who enjoys good baking isn't going to be lazy enough to use crap generic store bought cake mix.

Recipe sites should be encouraging people to create GOOD interesting food. They shouldn't be encouraging them to use store bought cake mix in their recipe's. I'm gunna go ahead and assume this is an American site. They're usually the ones with the terrible lazy recipes designed for toddlers and people who don't have the skills to measure proper ingredients. This looks about as good as the 3 ingredient recipe for Nutella flap jacks that taste absolutely disgusting.

Hey Jaymes,
First of all you really need to work on your grammar, and your spelling is atrocious. Perhaps you don’t even know what that word means. I’ll give you time to look it up……
Anyway……if you aren’t interested in the recipe, then move along. Some people are SOMETIMES interested in making recipes with very few ingredients for a multitude of reasons……that have absolutely nothing to do with being American. Also, where are you from????? Please don’t say the UK or Ireland, because some of the laziest (and tasteless) recipes I’ve ever seen are from there, and it will just make me laugh a little too hard. For the record, I’ve been all over the world, and Americans are just as good at making from scratch, delicious recipes as anywhere else.

Also, how did you even find this site and post if you don’t know what it is? It’s literally 30 second recipes.
Terry
There are many sites, from all over the WORLD, that count boxed mixes as 1 ingredient. Most of the sites offer this type of recipe as a quick, easy to prepare SHORTCUT method, to prepare great tasting products.

Hater's gonna hate. Elisa Schmitz was much kinder than I wanted to be. Thankfully, tact won.

If you don't like it move on.. Noone is making u make it. Sometimes easy receipes like this are nice for working moms or something easy to make for your family
bepositive
So easy. Great recipe for when you need a quick dessert.
Michael Winkler
I think I will try it. And Jaymes should try meeting someone to release all that misery. He just comes off as a delusional twit talking about people like that.
Elisa Schmitz
Thank you, Michael Winkler ! Let us know if you try it and how it turns out for you!

As a "lazy" American who works a lot of hours during the Summer, I appreciate this easy recipe to prepare for work and family functions. Question... could I replace the lemon with other pie fillings, like blueberry or strawberry? I made a dump cake and used white cake mix, interested how the angel food cake mix would work instead.
Elisa Schmitz
LOL, Audra Jonson , thank you for your comment. I think it would be fun to experiment with other pie fillings, but I’ll defer to Donna John for her thoughts. 😀
Donna John
Yes! I am going to make this using different pie fillings. May start with peach, but strawberry and blueberry would be good ones, too.
Jan Mostrom
Donna John I thought this was such a great way for a quick and easy dessert! Love the creativity and simple recipe and love all the other recipes here too! Thanks for the variety 30Seconds!
Elisa Schmitz
You are the best, Jan Mostrom ! Thank you for being such an amazing member of our community!

Yes, I consider a box of cake mix in my cart ONE ingredient. Add a can of lemon pie filling and I have TWO ingredients in my cart. Anyway, these easy lemon bars were a hit this weekend at my Memorial Day party. Had to give out the recipe to several friends and family members, though it was just verbal because they're so easy to make. They were the first thing to go followed by the banana pudding. I will be making these often, as they've already been requested for July 4th. So whatever you consider the amount of ingredients, they're a good one to add to your dessert rotation if you like lemon desserts.
Gene Starwind
So, if the 'recipe' consisted of _only_ a boxed mix, that would qualify as 'single ingredient?' Or, better yet, how about a 'zero ingredient recipe' (even better, right?) consisting of a pre-made, store-bought dessert?
stevenheylek2237
The recipe worked out great, thank you very much. To the purest that are complaining about the boxed cake mix, how come there's no one talking about the multiple ingredients it takes to make the lemon pie filling ?
Chrissy Myer
I did this receipe but mine rose above my pan and got brown but still under baked? Wonder what happened?
