Tasty BLT Salad Recipe Is Like a Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich in a Bowl by Donna John

Is there anything like a BLT sandwich? Not for me. My perfect BLT is either on soft white bread or toasted white bread (depends on my mood), crisp (super crisp!) bacon, lots of mayonnaise, good lettuce (sorry, iceberg), fresh tomato and freshly ground black pepper. Perfection. Occasionally I'll add some avocado or sliced red onion. While you can't beat a BLT sandwich, this BLT salad recipe is pretty close.

The salad is a BLT sandwich in a bowl, and everything is accounted for – the lettuce, bacon, mayonnaise, tomatoes and even the bread in the form of croutons. The only cooking involved is frying up some bacon until crisp. You can fry the bacon in the microwave, in a skillet or air fryer, or bake it in the oven. (Here'show to cook bacon in the oven.) Whisk the mayonnaise, milk and garlic powder (just a little extra flavor) and drizzle it over the lettuce, crumbled bacon, tomatoes and croutons.

Homemade croutons are best for this salad recipe, though you can use premade store-bought croutons. I like this salad with sourdough croutons. Serve this easy BLT salad for lunch or as a light dinner, or as a side dish.

Ingredients

• 1/2 pound bacon
• 3/4 cup mayonnaise (I use Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise)
• 1/4 cup milk
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 head romaine lettuce, torn into pieces
• 1 pint grape or cherry tomatoes
• croutons

Here's how to make it: 

1. Cook the bacon until crisp. Drain on a paper towel and then crumble into large pieces.
2. Whisk together the mayonnaise, milk and garlic powder until smooth and well combined. Season with salt and black pepper.
3. Put the lettuce into a salad bowl. Top with the tomatoes, bacon and croutons. Drizzle with the dressing.
