Grandma's Old-fashioned Spiced Vanilla Hard Sauce Recipe Is Ready in 5 Minutes by 30Seconds Food

Hard sauce is a rich dessert sauce made with sugar, butter and flavorings such as vanilla, rum, brandy or whiskey. This hard sauce recipe is not to be confused with the original British hard sauce, also known as brandy butter. The British hard sauce is thick, not cooked, served cold and was originally made to be a topping for Christmas pudding.
This vanilla sauce gets a kick from the addition of nutmeg and cinnamon. The sauce is so easy to make. In a saucepot, stir together the granulated sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and water. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook, stirring constantly, for about two minutes or until it thickens up. Take the saucepot off of the heat and stir in the butter, vanilla and rum or brandy extract. The sauce is now ready to be drizzled or spooned over your dessert of choice.
Use this hard sauce as a glaze for cakes, on bread budding, pound cake, doughnuts, fruitcake, pies, cobblers, fruit crisps or anything that needs a tasty sauce. You could even dip fruit in it. How will you use it?
