The sauce can be spooned or drizzled over cakes, bread pudding, pancakes, waffles, ice cream, pies and cobblers. Or, use it as a dip for pound cake cubes, pretzels, cookies or fruit.
The butter in this vanilla sauce recipe is optional. It is delicious without it, but does add a different flavor and even more creaminess. Your call. Store the vanilla sauce in the refrigerator, covered, for about one week.

Ingredients
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) butter (optional)

- Put the cream, sugar, vanilla and butter, if using, into a saucepot.
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook, stirring often, until thick, about 10 minutes.
