Yes, fresh is always best, but sometimes you just need a quick meal with lots of rich flavor. This easy slow-cooker chicken and gravy recipe a friend shared with me was the answer. This stick-to-your-ribs slow-cooker recipe has just a few ingredients and will fill you up. This is comfort food at its finest. Plus, this is a shortcut recipe which we always love.
To make this budget-friendly chicken dinner recipe you will need boneless/skinless chicken breasts (read about the health benefits of protein), a can of cream of chicken soup, dry gravy mix and sour cream. The four ingredients (plus a little water) cook in the slow cooker, then the chicken is shredded. So easy! This is one high-protein chicken recipe you'll find yourself making over and over again.
Ladle the chicken and rich chicken gravy over egg noodles, mashed potatoes or rice. I served the tender chicken and gravy with a fresh garden salad drizzled with homemade sensation salad dressing. My husband really enjoyed this slow-cooker recipe and took the leftovers for lunch the next day.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours
Total Time: 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 4 boneless/skinless chicken breasts
- 10.5 ounces (1 can) cream of chicken soup
- 2 ounces (2 packets) chicken gravy mix
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 8 ounces sour cream
Here's how to make it:
- Put the chicken breast, cream of chicken soup, gravy mixes and water into the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours. (You could use boneless chicken thighs instead of breasts. To reduce the sodium, use low-sodium gravy mix and the healthier version of cream of chicken soup.)
- Shred the chicken with two forks. Add the sour cream. Season with black pepper, if desired. Stir, cover and cook for about 30 minutes more. (For more flavor and freshness, throw in some fresh chopped herbs.) Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes or rice.
