Grandma's Jell-O Pie Recipe: A Creamy Old-fashioned Gelatin Dessert Recipe for Spring & Summer

Some dessert recipes remind you of your childhood – and some desserts are your childhood. My grandma made this easy, creamy Jell-O pie recipe all the time during the warmer months (in Texas, that's pretty much year 'round).

You can use any flavor gelatin, but for me, cherry is the only way to go. My grandma would occasionally try a new flavor like strawberry-banana, raspberry or lime. It was good, but I always wished it was cherry after finishing my bowl. Kids love this easy Jell-O recipe (adults, too!).

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 13 minutes
Cook Time: 2 minutes (to boil the water)
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 12

Here's how to make it:

  1. Dissolve the gelatin and sugar in the boiling water. Add the lemon juice.
  2. Whip the evaporated milk until stiff.
  3. While whipping, slowly pour in the gelatin mixture until well combined.
  4. Put the vanilla wafers into a rectangular baking dish.
  5. Pour the gelatin mixture over the vanilla wafers.
  6. Top with crumbled vanilla wafers.
  7. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

My grandma made this but she used a graham cracker crust. She called it Swirl Cake.
