I'm calling pizza night! With my kids coming over for a homemade pizza party, I needed a good pizza dough recipe fast. Not wanting to wait six hours for the dough to rise, this was the pizza crust recipe I put my faith into. The rustic pizza dough recipe was super easy to prepare, work with and cook.
You only need four simple ingredients and a little olive oil for the pan to make this easy Italian homemade pizza dough. Here is your shopping lists: all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, sea salt and water (cold water). The cold water kind of threw me, but after two hours the dough had risen and was very easy to shape and stretch into a beautiful (though not round!) pizza.
If you don't have a stand mixer, combine all the ingredients well, knead on a floured surface with your hands for about 10 to 15 minutes or until it forms a smooth ball, then proceed as directed below. It's a fun family lunch or dinner idea!
Cuisine: Italian
Prep Time: 2 hours and 10 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours and 10 minutes
Servings: 20 (makes 6 10- to 12-inch pizzas)
Ingredients
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
- 2 1/4 cups cold water (yes, cold water)
Here's how to make it:
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine the flour, yeast and salt. Stir together with a spoon.
- Add the cold water. Using the dough hook, mix together on low for about 8 to 10 minutes. The dough should pull away from the sides and only stick to the bottom of the bowl. If the dough continues to stick to the sides of the bowl, add a little more flour.
- Remove the dough and put it onto a floured surface. Cut it into six equal pieces (or as close as you can get).
- Put the dough balls onto an oiled baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil.
- Cover with plastic wrap and put them in a draft-free place to rise for 2 hours. (I put mine in the oven).
- After the dough has risen, take a ball of the dough and put it onto a floured surface. Use your fingers and palms of your hands to form a 10- to 12-inch pizza crust (it does not have to be round).
- Top with desired pizza toppings and bake using your preferred method.
