Lots of debate about this pasta recipe.) Whatever you want to call it, this hearty ground beef recipe is easy and a family pleaser. My boys love it!
To make American chop suey you will need just a handful of ingredients. Here is your shopping list for this budget high-protein recipe: elbow macaroni, ground beef, onion, seasoned salt, crushed red pepper flakes, a can of diced tomatoes (check out the health benefits of canned tomatoes) and Worcestershire sauce.
This easy family dinner recipe cooks in one pan on the stovetop in about 15 minutes. This budget recipe is so quick, delicious and filling. Plus my boys are getting the health benefits of protein in every savory bite.

Ingredients
- 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni, cooked according to package directions
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 28 ounces (1 can) diced tomatoes, with their liquid
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Here's how to make it:
- Crumble the ground beef into a skillet. Add the onion and cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes.
- Add the seasoned salt, crushed red pepper flakes, if using, tomatoes with their liquid and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked macaroni and simmer another 5 minutes. (You can use any short pasta you'd like for this recipe.)Serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop on low.
