Most of the time in Texas, we smoke our briskets. But if you don't feel like smoking your brisket all day, try this easy oven-baked brisket recipe. The rich sauce is full of flavor, the meat is super tender and the onions are a bonus.
This simple baked brisket beef recipe has only five ingredients. Here is your short shopping list: a brisket, a can of Coke, a bottle of chili sauce, a packet of dry onion soup mix and onions. The onions provide a bed for the brisket to sit on while baking. The carbonated soda, chili sauce and onion soup mix are stirred together and poured over the brisket and onions. In about three to six hours, depending on the size of your brisket, you'll sit down to a plate of beefy goodness.
The tender, oven-baked brisket and flavorful gravy is delicious over mashed potatoes for dinner. The leftovers make mouth-watering brisket sandwiches. If you are on a gluten-free diet, make sure you're onion soup mix is gluten-free. Some are and some aren't.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 3 to 6 hours
Total Time: 3 to 6 hours
Servings: 12
Ingredients
- 1 brisket (4 to 8 pounds)
- 12 ounces (1 can) Coke
- 12 ounces (1 bottle) chili sauce (I use Heinz Chili Sauce, which is gluten-free)
- 1 ounce (1 packet) onion soup mix
- 2 large onions, sliced
Here's how to make it:
- Place the sliced onions on the bottom of a large roasting pan.
- Combine the can of Coke, chili sauce and onion soup mix.
- Trim the brisket and place it on top of the onions. Pour the Coke mixture over the top of the brisket. Cover with a lid or aluminum foil.
- Bake in a preheated 325-degree F oven for 3 to 6 hours, or until tender (cook time will depend on the size of your brisket). The ideal temperature is 195 degrees F, but remember the internal temperature of the brisket can increase even after it's been removed from the oven.
- Serve with the onions and sauce. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave.
