Caprese salad is a refreshing salad, appetizer or side dish to serve anytime, but what if you're having a get-together? Make it easy on yourself and skewer that salad! These easy and healthy caprese salad skewers take about 10 minutes to make but look fabulous on a pretty platter. Fun and fancy!
Caprese salads on a stick simplify serving. The skewers can be drizzled beforehand with Italian dressing or your favorite vinaigrette, or left dry and served with a small bowl of olive oil, vinegar (balsamic is great) or dressing.
All you need to make the salad kebabs is grape tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, basil leaves and whatever you want to drizzle on them. Balsamic vinaigrette, Italian salad dressing or just olive and vinegar complement the Italian salad ingredients perfectly. This is a fun salad recipe to make for Mom on Mother's Day. And impress her with a fun fact about caprese salad: Caprese salad goes way back to post World War I Italy. The first printed mention of the Italian salad was on a menu at the Hotel Quisisana.
Cuisine: Italian
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 1 pint grape or cherry tomatoes, cut in half or left whole (about 2 cups)
- fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into cubes (or use mozzarella balls)
- fresh basil leaves
- salad dressing of choice or olive oil and vinegar (I like Italian salad dressing)
Here's how to make it:
- Carefully skewer the tomatoes, cheese and basil leaves onto short skewers or party picks. You can use wooden or metal skewers. You can season with a little sea salt and black pepper, if desired.
- Lay the skewers on a serving platter and either drizzle with the dressing of your choice or leave dry and serve with a bowl of dressing or olive oil/vinegar for dipping. Store any leftover skewers or salad ingredients in airtight containers in the fridge.
