- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- dash of salt
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- sugar, for sprinkling
Here’s how to make them:
- Beat the brown sugar, shortening, molasses, egg, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and salt with an electric mixer.
- Combine the flour and baking soda. Add it to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Shape dough into balls and dip into the granulated sugar. Place on cookie sheets that have been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
- Bake in a preheated 375-degree F oven for about 10-11 minutes.
