Salmon recipes are always on fire at 30Seconds. Salmon is a popular ingredient not only because of the heath benefits of salmon, but because it can be used in so many different ways. From fresh salmon recipes to canned salmon recipes, you'll find one (or lots more!) that you enjoy making and eating on 30Seconds. This crispy southwest salmon patties recipe with a creamy avocado cilantro sauce is a twist on traditional salmon patties, using southwest and Mexican herbs and spices. It is a delicious high-protein dinner.
Fresh and canned salmon is a healthy part of the Mediterranean diet. If you avoid canned salmon because it takes you forever to remove the bones, here’s a tip for you: crush the bones with your fingers when breaking up the salmon. The salmon bones literally turn to powder and disappear into the fish. The healthy bonus? The bones are full of bone-building calcium.
This easy low-carb salmon patties recipe can be made in the air fryer or baked in the oven To make this high-protein seafood recipe you will need the following ingredients from your fridge and pantry: canned salmon, red onion, fresh cilantro (cilantro has health benefits), Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, eggs, flour (all-purpose or gluten-free), ground cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, a ripe avocado (read about the health benefits of avocado), a lemon for juicing and fresh garlic.
Serve these crispy salmon patties for dinner with your favorite side dishes. You could even serve them as appetizers with the creamy sauce on the side.
Cuisine: Mexican / Tex-Mex / Southwest
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes (air fryer) or 25 minutes (oven)
Total Time: 25 to 40 minutes
Servings: 4 (makes 8 patties)
Ingredients
Salmon Patties
- 20 - 24 ounces (4 small cans) salmon, drained
- 1/4 cup chopped red onion
- 1/8 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup flour (all-purpose or gluten-free flour)
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- olive oil cooking spray, for misting
Creamy Avocado Sauce
- 1 avocado, peeled and pitted
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 - 2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro
- water, to thin, if needed (optional)
Here's how to make it:
- Make the avocado sauce by putting all the ingredients except the fresh cilantro into a blender. Blend until smooth. Add water, if needed, to reach desired consistency. Stir in the cilantro. Set aside.
- Mix all the salmon patties ingredients in a mixing bowl. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste. (You could make this recipe with canned tuna instead of salmon. For gluten free salmon patties, use gluten-free flour.)
- Shape into 8 patties and place into a 400-degree F preheated air fryer in a single layer. Mist with olive oil spray.
- Cook for 10 minutes or until crispy and golden. Serve hot with the avocado sauce. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
- To bake the salmon patties, place the patties on a baking sheet. Mist the tops with olive oil cooking spray. Bake in a preheated 425-degree F oven for 15 minutes. Flip the patties over and continue to bake until browned and crispy, about 10 minutes more.
