Have you tried overnight oats yet? Overnight oats are pretty trendy these days, but the truth is that people have been enjoying overnight oatmeal for ages. Overnight oats as a healthy no-cook breakfast cereal has been around since at least 1900, when Swiss physician Maximilian Bircher-Benner started serving a meal called muesli to patients in his hospital in Switzerland.
The muesli was made with unprocessed rolled oats that were soaked in milk or water overnight (hence the term "overnight oats") then typically mixed the next day with things like fresh apples, nuts and lemon juice. Over time, overnight oats recipes included ingredients like grains, seeds and dried fruits, along with yogurt or milk. Check out the many health benefits of muesli.
When you make your own muesli, you can be as creative as you want and make it your own. But the rule of thumb typically includes about 80 percent grains (mostly rolled oats), 10 percent nuts and seeds, and 10 percent dried fruits. When you buy pre-packaged muesli, that's what you'll usually find inside the bag. Making overnight oats with muesli provides a nice shortcut because a bunch of ingredients are already put together in one place, so all you need to do is add the yogurt or milk products and any fresh fruit you may want.
I love making overnight oatmeal because all you have to do is throw a few ingredients into a container the night before and breakfast is ready when you wake up in the morning. How great is that? This peach pie overnight oatmeal recipe with muesli is delicious, and it's packed with protein and fiber. If you love peaches and are looking for healthy breakfast ideas, then give this easy overnight oats recipe a try. Check out the health benefits of protein and the health benefits of fiber.
With peaches and cinnamon, this breakfast recipe really does remind me of peach pie. The oatmeal is naturally sweet, thanks to the honey and peaches. Check out the health benefits of honey and the health benefits of peaches. The oatmeal packs a protein punch, thanks to the milk and Greek yogurt (check out the health benefits of Greek yogurt). The oats, which become more easily digestible as they soak overnight, and seeds provide a great source of fiber and other nutrients.
Here are the gluten-free ingredients you'll need to make this nourishing high-protein and high-fiber overnight oatmeal recipe: muesli (store-bought or make your own muesli), milk, plain Greek yogurt, honey, cinnamon and fresh peaches. The chopped walnuts are optional but add some nice crunch (check out the health benefits of walnuts). All you do is combine the ingredients then let them soak in the refrigerator for at least six hours (or overnight) before serving. So easy and delicious.
Serve this wholesome peach pie overnight oatmeal recipe cold from the refrigerator or warm it up with a splash of milk. Enjoy it as a nutritious grab-and-go breakfast any day of the week, or as part of a cozy weekend brunch.
