Yes, air frying is still an obsession at my house. The air fryer hasn't let me down yet. This quick and easy air fryer Asian chicken skewers recipe has quick prep and cooks up in about 12 minutes. The budget-friendly, high-protein dinner is one you'll go back to again and again.
You only need five simple ingredients for this air fryer recipe. Here is what you need to gather from your fridge and pantry to make this chicken dinner tonight: boneless/skinless chicken thighs, soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari for those on a gluten-free diet), garlic powder, fresh ginger (read about the health benefits of ginger) and brown sugar or honey.
The chicken recipe calls for a bit of marinating time, but you could skip it if time is an issue. The boneless chicken thighs will still be juicy, moist and delicious. Chicken thighs are a forgiving ingredient and are hard to mess up, no matter how you cook them.
These Asian-inspired, teriyaki-inspired air-fried chicken kebabs are perfect served on a bed of rice, fried rice or even rice noodles. I had some leftover quinoa, so I got creative and turned it into fried rice by adding soy sauce and green onions. The quinoa fried rice was so delicious, I'm currently working on a recipe, so stay tuned! Plus, the quinoa upped the protein in my dinner. Cuisine: Asian / American
Prep Time: 8 minutes
Cook Time: 12 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 1 pound boneless/skinless chicken thighs
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (or tamari)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, grated or minced (I used 2 frozen ginger cubes)
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar (or honey)
Here's how to make it:
- Put all the ingredients into a food storage bag or shallow dish. Season with salt and black pepper, if desired. (For a gluten-free dinner, use tamari instead of soy sauce.)
- Seal the bag or cover the dish and marinate for 30 minutes to 2 hours in the fridge. (If you don't have time to marinate the chicken, no worries! The chicken will still be delicious.)
- When ready to cook, remove the chicken thighs from the marinade. Thread onto skewers. (If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes.)
- Place the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer.
- Air fry at 400 degrees F for about 10 to 12 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through. Chicken is cooked through at 165 degrees F internal temperature on a food thermometer. (Cooking time will vary due to thickness and size of your chicken.)
- Serve. (I poured the juices in the bottom of the air fryer over the chicken.)
- Store any leftover skewers in an airtight container in the fridge.
