I love easy side dish recipes that spice up a plain protein and keep me wanting to eat more, especially if it is a delicious vegetable. These air fryer green beans, which can also be roasted in a conventional oven, are fast, easy and can be as spicy as you like. A splash of balsamic helps the green beans caramelize beautifully as they cook in the air fryer to your desired crispness.
To make this easy Italian-inspired baked green beans recipe you just need five simple, wholesome, healthy, gluten-free ingredients. Here is your short shopping list for this vegan recipe: fresh green beans (check out the health benefits of green beans), balsamic vinegar (read about the health benefits of balsamic vinegar), extra-virgin olive oil, crushed red pepper flakes and fresh garlic cloves.
Serve these crisp-tender Mediterranean green beans as a side dish with dinner, or toss them into salads, grain bowls or other recipes.
Cuisine: American / Italian / Mediterranean
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 to 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 to 20 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound green beans, trimmed
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (to taste)
- 2 garlic cloves, finely grated
Here's how to make it:
- Preheat your air fryer or oven to 375 degrees F. (If your air fryer doesn’t require preheating skip this step. If you are cooking in a conventional oven, line a small baking sheet with parchment.)
- Add the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, crushed red pepper flakes, garlic and a small pinch of salt to a bowl.
- Place the green beans into the bowl and using clean hands, toss the beans into the sauce, rubbing it into the greens.
- Place the beans in your air fryer basket or onto the parchment. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes to your desired crispness. Taste to see if more salt or crushed red pepper flakes are needed.
- Serve. Store any leftover green beans in an airtight container in the fridge. This recipe can easily be doubled.
