Do you tend to say “stop crying” to your child when they’re upset about something? In my opinion, here are 10 better things to say to your kids when they’re sad.
- “It’s OK to be sad.”
- “This is really hard for you. Let me help you find a way to solve this problem.”
- “I hear you.”
- “Tell me about it.”
- “That was really scary/sad.”
- “I am here with you.”
- “I will help you work it out.”
- “I am listening.”
- “I hear that you need space. I want to be here for you. I’ll stay close so you can find me when you’re ready.”
- “It doesn’t feel fair.”
