Spring Beauty Tips: 4 Ways to Spring Clean Your Skin-Care Routine Skin Care

With the arrival of spring, many rituals occur – spring cleaning, planting your dreamy spring and summer blooms, and transitioning from a winter to spring wardrobe. Another important “spring cleaning” is looking at your skin-care routine and figuring out what may need some tweaking as the days get warmer, sunnier and longer. Here are some things to consider in the next few weeks:

  • Don’t Be Flaky: Winter often means dry, rough or dull skin. Moisturizers and face treatments are most effective when applied to fresh, flake-free skin. Try a gentle scrub up to three times a week, but avoid scrubs with shells or kernels as the exfoliant as they can literally scratch your skin, causing irritation.
  • Lighten Up: While your skin couldn’t get enough hydration in the winter months, it might be time to find something lighter. With so many options when it comes to moisturizers how do you choose? I prefer something without fragrances, which narrows it down. Gel moisturizers are perfect for oily or combination skin.
  • Screen Your Face, Not Your Calls: It’s easy to slack on sunscreen, especially when you work long days and rarely even see the sun. But this is an important habit to stick with, and is easy when you discover a sunscreen you love. Elta MD has mineral-based sunscreen that works great on sensitive skin, but doesn’t leave a white cast you often struggle with when using a mineral formula. Layer this over your favorite moisturizer (don’t forget your neck) or choose to double up the protection with makeup containing SPF, like a mineral powder foundation.
  • Pucker Up: A new lipstick always helps brighten your face – and your mood. But the popular matte formulas draw attention to every dry spot and crack. Start treating your lips now, so that in a few weeks they are ready to go. Gently scrub with an old toothbrush before bed and apply a thin layer of your favorite lip balm. I’m loyal to Eminence Citrus Lip Balm. Once your lips are smooth, throw on that pop of color and wait for the compliments to roll in.
