Warren Township Park Near Gurnee, Illinois, Is a Great Park for Kids! Chicago Traveling With Kids

Last summer I discovered one of my favorite parks, Warren Township Park playground in Gurnee, Ill. Warren Township Park is awesome because it's like three parks in one!! When you first walk into the park there is a game type thing where you have to hit the lights as they light up – kind of like a giant Simon says. My kids could spend 45 minutes alone just playing this game. Then, there is a pirate ship climber. My kids, most of time, skip this because it only has one slide and their part of the playground has three or four slides. But it’s great for toddlers.

The best part of this playground is that it has a giant sandbox. The park district always provides buckets and shovels at the beginning of summer, so there is no need to bring your own. I am always forgetting the sand toys, so for me this is one of the best advantages of this park. The sandbox also has a water feature so the children can build rivers and dams or whatever their imagination makes them. I love watching my kids create things here and most of the time I join in with them and we all leave sandy.

To the right of the sand pit is another large playground section with even more slides, climbing walls, etc. My favorite part of this area is these cool bench-type swings that a few people could sit on side by side and swing away. Sometimes I sit here and swing while I watch my children play with other kids at park.
