15 Breathtaking Photos of Limone sul Garda, on Lake Garda, Italy, That'll Make You Want to Plan a Trip There Right Now

There’s a tiny town in Italy, on the shores of Lake Garda (also known as Lago di Garda), called Limone sul Garda. With only 1,000 residents, about 10 percent of whom live to be centenarians (100 years old), Limone is most easily reached by boat.

My husband and I were fortunate to visit dear friends who live near this charming Italian village in the Northern region of Lombardy, and they took us by ferry to visit Limone for the day.

Nestled in the Dolomite Mountains, and on the shores of picturesque Lake Garda, Limone could not be in a more breathtaking location.

In addition to being well known for the longevity of its residents, Limone is highly regarded for its lemon groves and olive oil.

The first thing you notice when you arrive at the Limone port is the abundance of flowers and old-world charm.

But as you step off the ferry and into the beautiful town square, the next thing you notice is the lemons. They are all around you.

In Limone, you feel as though you have stepped back in time. Walking the narrow cobblestone streets, it's easy to see that lemons are an abundant natural resource. You can buy just about anything made of lemons there.

After sipping some fresh-made limoncello, we wandered the winding alleys and climbed the ancient stairways of Limone, sightseeing, shopping and tasting everything we could (including the limoncello gelato, wow).

I still remember the delicious aroma and flavor of fresh-picked lemons, everywhere.

Trying to capture that perfect day in the Italian countryside, I made this easy lemon chicken recipe. While it isn’t an actual trip back to Limone, it did transport us there for just a while.

I can't wait to go back to Limone, but in the meantime, I'm sharing these photos and remembering one of the most amazing days ever.
