Breastfeeding Help for New Moms: 5 Thoughtful Ways to Support a Breastfeeding Mom Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding can be tremendously rewarding, but it takes a lot of time and effort to be successful. While it’s a family decision to breastfeed a new baby, many women take on most of the burden, and this can take a toll on their health. Here are some of the most helpful ways to be involved in the breastfeeding process:

  • Encourage self-care. Moms who are hyper-focused on the baby need time to take care of themselves, too.
  • Wash the breastfeed pump parts. If she cooks, you clean. This can get tedious, so jump in and lend a hand.
  • Bring her things. It’s near impossible to get up once you sit down to breastfeed, so be on hand to deliver a glass of water, her phone, a snack or anything else mom needs.
  • Participate in the process. Feeding is only part of the equation, so get involved by burping the baby, changing a diaper or rocking them back to sleep.
  • Give her a break. Offer to do a late-night bottle feeding or take the baby for a walk in between meals to give mom some off-duty time.

Thanks for the tips! After the first six months when I started breastfeeding my baby, there were days when milk was gone and I had to feed the baby with the Holle Stage 2 Organic formula . Perhaps this was really due to overwork and stress that I experienced, although my husband tried his best to support me.
