"I think I want to share my ongoing struggle with the Monster to let people know that everyone is dealing with their own unique Monster." This post took my breath away and brought me to tears, Rick St. Peter . Your writing is so real and true. I am sorry for your pain, for the Monster that you fight with. You are so right that you are not alone in this; and yet, it is not talked about nearly enough. Thank you for having the courage to share what is going on with you, to use your voice to bring light to those shadowy places. It makes a difference. YOU make a difference. You are bold and brave and you give me hope. I am rooting for you, Rick. You've got this Monster, you really do.

The fact that you could write this....you are standing up to the Monster. You are stronger than you think. Thank you for sharing. I know this article is helpful to those also battling the Monster.

Your experience is unique and yet I can relate. I hate to be that person, but I felt called to share because of your honesty about a topic many shy away from. During my battle with depression amongst my arsenal of support and tools, I believe that it wasn't until I found the right psychiatrist and his expert 'scientist mind' combination of drugs that I found solid ground to stand on. I will be on medications for the rest of my life gratefully. Another topic full of stigma and yes - I'm becoming a meditation instructor too. ...but with all the alternative approaches and diet I was not able to lift the weight of symptoms of depression. In my experience the thoughts and emotions never leave us, but the weight and the grip is alleviated. To befriend my monsters this is what works for me! Thank you for sharing what's in your heart and to educate and inspire others to acknowledge their monsters, ask for help and men especially need to start having this conversation.

This will help soooooo many people. I think I have always known I was prone to depression but confirmed a few years ago with DNA testing. But I think I have successfully managed to stay 1 step ahead of this monster. For example, I anticipate when it is likely to visit and change my activity or focus. I try to stay nutritionally balanced and over emphasize those nutrients like magnesium that keep me sane. I try to keep moving and create new challenges and counter any potential negativity with something positive. These are just some of the things that work for me. It is a challenge but we can overcome it.

Rick, you are SERIOUSLY depressed.

You need to find the time to locate a competent physician to sort out appropriate treatment for you before things get worse.

Your children need you.

YOU need you.

This depression has gone on for almost 4 years.

You will not beat it until you teach out for support.

I KNOW this because I am you.

The circumstances are not identical but my depression is long-lasting, serious and real.

I am tackling it with the one--two punch of medication and visiting a therapist.

I was a Neuroscience pharma rep repping antidepressants for nearly 20 years.

That did not protect me from my own depression, but it did help me recognize it and tackle it.

That is what you need to do.

Do not keep waiting for your depression to magically lift on its own.

Gather what little energy you have and find a doctor who treats depressed patients often.

Please do this as soon as you can.

I will be thinking about how you are doing.

You wrote this piece because you were reaching out for someone to listen and help.

That someone is right here.
