Reset or Regret & Live Each Day Like It's Your Last: Bruce Springsteen Reminded Me of This Over Tea Fatherhood Parenting

Laundry, car maintenance, washer repair, messy rooms, fighting siblings, school projects ... takes a sip of water ... canceled flights, school bullying, parent drama, car lines, athletics, activities, pass or fail, win or lose... That’s my week so far, and I’m sure for many parents it’s comparable, if not exact.

I often lean on music when life seems crazy or overwhelming, and sometimes it just nails the moment. So while having a cup of tea in the kitchen this morning, Bruce Springsteen came right out of the radio and spoke directly into my ear.

"Hard times, baby well they come to us all
Sure as the ticking of the clock on the wall
Sure as the turning of the night into day

"But I’m waiting, waiting on a sunny day
Gonna chase the clouds away
Yeah, I’m waiting on a sunny day."

So before I go to bed, no matter what the circumstances, I always count my blessings. I am healthy, my family is healthy, our rabbit, guinea pig and fish are healthy. We have a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, food in the fridge and we live, laugh and love each other no matter how messy life gets both literally and figuratively.

So this morning, again, I will hit the reset button and take on the new day with a new passion, outlook and optimism. I'll work like it's my first day and live like it's my last.

Reset or regret, I say.

Oh, and it’s sunny outside.
