Dad Confessions: I Am a Man & Buy Pads & Tampons for My Wife & Daughters Fatherhood Teens

Sometimes when I do the shopping, I purchase pads and tampons for my wife and two mature daughters. I do not know much about menstruation, but I know enough that I want them to practice good hygiene and be safe. Pads and tampons help. Menstruation is a normal human body function. It is part of women’s reproduction, which gives life to all of us.

Usually when I get to the section of the store with these products, I make a phone call to my wife or daughter who requested the product. I want to make sure I get the right ones. My wife jokes with me; she knows I have a pretty loud voice, and whenever I am speaking on my cellphone, I am just about yelling. You know like, “Can you hear me now? Is this the right one in the red box?”

It is bewildering to me that in some cultures, menstruating women are treated very poorly and even isolated. I know some men in America who will not purchase these women’s hygiene products because they are embarrassed. Men, if you are feeling this way, find someone to talk to about menstruation and educate yourself. The more you know, the more you will be able to support the women around you. 

The better you support people around you, the happier you will be.
