I realized the importance of my 1-year-old’s transitional object during his first haircut. Children usually choose a transitional object between 8 and 12 months. It may be a blanket, stuffed animal or other soft object. My son's monkey:
- calms him when he’s separated from me
- comforts him during scary times
- makes him feel at home when he’s sleeping elsewhere
The transitional object helps young kids make the emotional transition from dependence to independence. They're effective because they're familiar, soft and have the child’s scent.
It makes Baby feel that everything is going to be OK!
