Mood Crew: ​Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance Launches a New Program That Supports Children’s Mental Health by 30Seconds Health

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) has launched a new program called “DBSA Mood Crew,” an engaging educational program that helps children ages 4 to 10 years old to make friends with their feelings.

This innovative tool helps adults open a positive dialogue about emotions with children. Children concurrently learn to recognize and articulate their emotions, a key step toward lifelong emotional well-being.

“The DBSA Mood Crew was made for parents, caregivers, educators and clinicians to begin important conversations about understanding emotions," says Hannah Zeller, MSW, DBSA, Programs Manager at DBSA. "Playing a game like Matching Moods or Moods in Motion can bring excitement to kids and make talking about emotions more fun than challenging.”

While this program is beneficial for all children, it is particularly useful for those who may show early signs of mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder, or those who have difficulty managing their emotions. For these young ones, using DBSA Mood Crew to spark healthy conversations can help build the coping skills that support long-term wellness.

DBSA is committed to supporting individuals with depression or bipolar disorder and their loved ones throughout all stages of their lives. “Last year, as part of a three-year strategy, DBSA made a commitment to create more resources and support for children, teens, young adults, and parents and caregivers. DBSA Mood Crew is the first resource created to be used with children, and we couldn’t be happier,” says Maria Margaglione, DBSA Programs Director.

Mood Crew is made possible by a generous grant from the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. DBSA also recognizes the Dauten Family Foundation, whose generous support makes DBSA’s Supporting Youth Mental Health initiative possible.
