Now that we are quarantining at home and homeschooling because of coronavirus (COVID-19), it's the perfect time to add in a few subjects that school may not teach. It’s time for my teenager to begin learning some fundamentals and help build character at the same time. Every skill mastered will help my child build self-esteem and prepare them to launch in the coming years.
In our home, we have started a list of things we really want our teenager to know before leaving the nest (hopefully leaving the nest!):
- steam cleaning carpets
- pulling weeds
- changing a bicycle tire
- changing a car tire
- painting doors and trim
- car maintenance
- cooking from scratch
- tending the chickens
- building a campfire
- hanging laundry
- baking bread
- washing dishes by hand
- making soup
- balancing a checkbook
- wise spending
- wise investing
- mowing the lawn
- fixing a clogged toilet/sink
- cleaning microwave
- making a good cup of coffee
Tribe, we are running out of ideas and we need your help. As the quarantine continues, what would you add to this list of much-needed life skills? Please share in the comments section below.
