Kids Learn Coding While Playing With Unruly Splats by Unruly Studios at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair (ChiTAG)! by Elisa Schmitz

We all know how important play is for kids, but imagine if they could play and also learn skills like coding. We caught up with Bryanne Leeming from Unruly Studios at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair (ChiTAG) and learned about their seriously fun new game that also teaches kids to code! 

“Unruly Splats are a set of electronic floor buttons," says Bryanne. "They actually light up, make sound and they sense when you step on them. They’re durable enough for kids and adults to jump on them with two feet and run around the room and play actively on them." 

The inspiration for Unruly Splats came from when Bryanne was a kid at school and learned to code at 8 years old. "I was really lucky to have that exposure at such a young age, and it helped me later in my career in technology." While getting her MBA, she had the idea for this product and started prototyping it. Her team comes from backgrounds like Nickelodeon, Disney and Hasbro. What an amazing team to build the product! 

The game connects to Bluetooth by an iPad. "We also have a Chrome application because lots of schools have Chromebooks," says Bryanne.

"The best part is that they’re actually programmable by kids, so kids learn to code through this active, recess play," says Bryanne. We love when kids are active and learning at the same time. Awesome!
