Human Chain Rescue: House Divided Comes Together to Save Family Caught in Riptide by Nancy Dafoe
For two hours while they worked to create a human chain, pass children and adults to shore, a group of Americans worked as one unit, as one united people. Although details may be found in the human-interest story, specifics are not the focus here. The outcome is: Human chain members did not know each other, were from various parts of the country and held different political, religious, social and culture beliefs.
During those agonizing moments for the drowning family and human chain, however, American politics was null and void. They were human beings struggling to hold their heads above water, not metaphorically, economically, but literally. Reading about the lesbian couple, an elderly woman, little boys, Republicans, Democrats, Progressives, alt-right, left coming together as one to save lives, I had to smile. Maybe, just maybe, we can again heal our divided nation.
