Knitted Knockers: Knit Prosthetics for Breast Cancer Survivors by Renee

My mom is a breast cancer survivor. Knowing that she was not planning on having reconstructive surgery after having a double mastectomy, I wanted to find something to help bring her comfort. During my search, I came across an organization called Knitted Knockers.

Knitted Knockers was founded by Barbara Demorest, who wanted a comfortable and functional prosthesis after having a mastectomy. After looking into several options, her doctor suggested using a pattern to knit a prosthesis as an alternative to using other prosthetics. She asked a friend to help her make one, and after using hers, she felt that any woman who had this particular need should be able to have one.

Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Knitted Knockers are made by volunteers and are provided at no cost. They can even be customized by size and color!

Since knitted knockers are sent to those in need at no charge, the organization is always looking for volunteers to knit and accepts monetary donations.
