How to Make the Ultimate Kid's Obstacle Course (With a Little Added Drama) by Jocelyn Greene

Whether you’re facing a rainy day indoors, an impending car trip or just a case of the wiggles, an obstacle course is a wonderful way to focus and release kids’ excess energy. Here are some tips that will help you take your course to the next level!

• Use a narrative they love from a book or movie and have them do the course in character or even in costume. Drama is key here and you may have to play the "bad guy!"

• Let your kids help with set up. Allowing kids to assist with mapping out the route helps them work on “planning” – a key executive function skill. It also helps them take ownership of the game.

• Use a score or overture to add extra drama.

• Record the course! Let kids draw a map or create a comic-strip style description of the course they made.
