Summer is a time to truly enjoy your home, even if you plan to put your house on the market. You can make fresh changes to not only feel happier while you’re there, but also add more value to your investment. 30Second Mom contributor Cecilia Cannon is a successful home-stager, which means she knows how to make simple yet meaningful changes that increase home enjoyment and market appeal. Here are some tips she provided to our community!

Q) What are some of the best ways to bring in the summer sun and enjoy natural light in our homes?
A) The easiest solution is to wash the windows! Removing the grime allows for more sun to enjoy. I put my kids to work on this!
Q) During colder months, we spend a lot of time sitting around our homes. How can we bring life back to those sofas and cushions?
A) There is a simple fix for this! Purchase filling at your local fabric store and just re-stuff your sofa cushions. You can throw pillows and rugs in the dryer to kill dust mites.
Q) With the kids being outside more, what do you do to keep your home safe and clean?
A) Contrary to what you may think, the leading cause of lead poisoning is contaminated soil and pesticide, not paint. Keep your home clean and safe by removing shoes at the door every time!

A) Styled storage means clearing out off-season items. Remove everything in your closet and start with a clean palette so you can totally restyle yourself each season. Only put back the things you know you will wear. You can donate what you know you won’t wear, and put off-season items in storage.
Q) When putting a home on the market, what is crucial to check?
A) Make sure you clean or repair your air conditioning unit, clean your gutters and check your roof for any needed repairs. These are things they look for during home inspections, so take care of them in advance.
Q) What is your No. 1 tip for staging your home to make it most attractive?
A) If you’re putting your home on the market, the No. 1 thing to remember is curb appeal. No one will come into your home unless it’s appealing from the outside. Easy things you can do to add curb appeal include landscaping, power-washing, planting potted flowers. Show buyers you care for and love your home (and they will, too)!
